Student groups protest against JNU admin Movie Review

NEW DELHI: A number of student groups including All India Students’ Association and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan protested outside the arts faculty on Saturday demanding that JNU student Najeeb Ahmed be located and those allegedly responsible for his disappearance be bought to book.

“A high level team must be constituted with proper mandate, with logistical support by the home ministry to locate Najeeb and ensure that he is safely brought back to JNU and his family,” said a statement from AISA, which reiterated the demands made by JNU students’ union.

The students blame the right-wing students’ group, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad of “beating and abusing Najeeb”— a charge denied by ABVP. The students’ association also demand that the JNU administration “use all available means of communication and publicity to reassure Najeeb that his safety would be taken care of.”

“The JNU administration did not even file an FIR about Najeeb going missing, instead it called him an accused in an incident of mob violence. The JNU administration has also not issued any public appeal about justice being served to those responsible,” added the AISA statement. ABVP, however, has denied assaulting Najeeb and, instead, accused him of slapping one of their members.“ABVP has a history of creating nuisance in the university, leave alone misbehaving with teachers and students,” said a statement from KYS listing out the plays, film-screenings and events halted by ABVP activists.
