SALEM/CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and leaders of various political parties on Tuesday condoled the
death of former
BJP state president
K N Lakshmanan who died in
Salem on Monday night at the age of 90.
Lakshmanan’s body was cremated at Kakkayan burial ground in Salem on Tuesday evening.
Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit said, “Lakshmanan was a nice gentleman, who spent his entire life for the welfare of people in Tamil Nadu.
His death is an irreparable loss to the people of the state and BJP.”
Palaniswami said Lakshmanan’s death would be a great loss to the state. “He served as the BJP president twice and as an MLA once. He was humble, and he loved all,” the chief minister said.
BJP state leaders Pon Radhakrishnan, C P Radhakrishnan and E La Ganesan paid their tributes to Lakshmanan.
Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed grief over Lakshmanan’s demise. She said, “Lakshmanan set an example to everyone through his simple living all his life.”
DMK chief M K Stalin said though K N Lakshmanan was in the opposition party, he had strong love and affection for Kalaignar (late CM M Karunanidhi).
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr Ramadoss said Lakshmanan was in the good books of BJP’s senior stalwarts, including former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and L K Advani. “He also closely moved with other party leaders in Tamil Nadu, including me. He was a humble and respectful person in the party.”
BJP national president J P Nadda said he was deeply saddened by the demise of senior leader and former president of Tamil Nadu BJP. “His remarkable journey from Jan Sangh to BJP and his dedication to serve the people will always inspire us,” he said.
Union finance minister Nirmala Seetharaman and BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao also expressed their condolence.
