TN Class XI girl gives birth to baby, throws it into bushes near school; Class X boy arrested for impregnating her

CUDDALORE: Police detained a Class X boy on charges of impregnating a Class XI girl in a village in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The 16-year-old girl, who gave birth to a baby boy, abandoned it in bushes near her school.
A student in the government girls higher secondary school found the baby's body on Thursday and alerted the assistant headmaster.
The assistant headmaster informed police.A police team, which reached the school, recovered the body and sent it to Kamaraj Government Hospital in Chidambaram for postmortem. Police suspected that one of the girl students might have given birth to the baby in a restroom in the school and threw it in the bushes.
During police inquiries, a girl student confessed to giving birth to the baby and throwing it in the bushes.
Further inquiries revealed that her boyfriend, a Class 10 student in a private school in the village, was responsible for her pregnancy. Police booked the boy under sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 5 (j) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on a child), 5 (j) (ii) (makes the child pregnant as a consequence of sexual assault), 5 (l) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012.
Police produced him before the juvenile justice board which sent him to an observation home. The girl was admitted to Kamaraj Government Hospital.
