Gorakhpur: Amid a flood of stories of social media being used by stalkers and anti-social elements, here comes a heart-warming tale from Gorakhpur. A youth befriends a 60-year-old woman thousands of miles away in California, USA.
Gradually, over four years, they develop a mother-son bond. The ties get so strong that she comes all the way to his village in Gorakhpur's Pipraich - carrying boxes of jewellery for her bahu - to attend his wedding on January 29.
Krishna Mohan, 28, a commerce graduate from DDU Gorakhpur Unversity, runs his family-owned sweets and pesticides business. He met Deb Miller on social media through a mutual friend. "It all started four years ago when I commented on an America-India page on FB. I was interested in making friends from different countries and one Bert of USA was my friend on FB. Aunty (Deb) was on his friends' list. She sent me a friend request and I accepted," he says. "One day she asked me to become her son as she had no children. I immediately accepted. Now I'm her son."
When Miller came to know Krishna is getting married on Janaury 29, she told his family she wanted to attend. On January 20, the family got another call from her. This time she had reached Delhi and was asking how to reach Pipraich. When she reached Gorakhpur by train, Krishna's entire family went to the railway station to receive her.
