Hinjewadi set to get new Bus rapid transit system terminus

Pimpri Chinchwad: A multi-storied bus terminus-cum-commercial complex will come up at Hinjewadi, benefitting people working in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and living in nearby areas.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will construct the complex at Hinjewadi though the village right now is outside its jurisdiction. Bus rapid transit system (BRTS) cell spokesperson Vijay Bhojane said, "The Hinjewadi IT park covers parts of Hinjewadi, Maan and Marunji villages that lie close to Pimpri Chinchwad municipal limits.
Thousands of IT professionals working there live in Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Nilakh and other areas of Pimpri Chinchwad. Thus, it makes sense for the PCMC to build the terminus."
The civic administration can spend money on implementing projects outside the municipal limits after getting the general body's approval, as has been done earlier. "We will seek the municipal corporation's approval for constructing the multi-storied terminus-cum-commercial complex . The financial provision will be made in the 2016-17 budget," Bhojane said.
The ground floor of the multi-storied complex will be used for running BRTS buses on the Nashik Phata-Wakad and proposed Dange chowk-Hinjewadi routes. The upper floors of the complex will be used for commercial purposes like providing recreational, shopping and other facilities.
A 1.5 acre reserved plot in phase II of the IT Park will be handed over to PMPML for the purpose. The plot is under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Ajit Relekar, regional manager of MIDC, said, "We have sent a proposal to our board to allot the plot to PMPML," said Relekar.
The PMPML had earlier asked the MIDC for 10 acre land, but the MIDC agreed to give only 1.5 acre plot for Rs 58 lakh.
