CHENNAI:
Mike Hussey emerged as a force in
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set-up in 2011 when he scored 492 runs at a strike rate of 118.84. He spent five successful years at
CSK from 2008-2013, which included two
IPL titles. Even during CSK's last IPL campaign before the two-year ban, Hussey was part of the side.
Now as CSK are set to return to the IPL-fold from next year, Hussey says he is open for a coaching role with the franchise.
"I definitely won't be coming back as a player (laughs). Once
VVS Laxman and I were having a casual conversation and he had told me about India coach's job. At that stage, I couldn't devote the kind of time required for coaching India. It was one of the reasons that I retired as a player because I was away from home for 10 months. And I don't want to be doing that again. But mentoring is fun and is about building up a rapport. Luckily, for me, I was able to build some excellent relationships with CSK. So it would be wonderful to get involved in CSK in a coaching role. If there is an opportunity, I would be definitely interested," Hussey, who is in the city, told reporters
Hussey feels that it's going to be a challenge for CSK to built the team from the scratch. "Two years is a long time in IPL and the teams and players have moved on. But CSK was always a well-run team. The owners give the coaching staff complete freedom. So if they can get the right players and support staff in the right place as well this time, I don't see why CSK cannot dominate again," said Hussey.
