Congress veteran, eight-term MP Nandi Yellaiah dies of Covid at Hyderabad hospital

Veteran Congress leader from Telangana and former six-term Lok Sabha and two-time Rajya Sabha member Nandi Yellaiah died of coronavirus at a hospital here on Saturday. ​​He was 78-year-old and was admitted to the hospital on July 29. He tested positive for Covid-19 and died while undergoing treatment.

HYDERABAD: Veteran Congress leader from Telangana and former six-term Lok Sabha and two-time Rajya Sabha member Nandi Yellaiah died of coronavirus at a hospital here on Saturday.
He was 78-year-old and was admitted to the hospital on July 29. He tested positive for Covid-19 and died while undergoing treatment.
Condolences poured in for Nandi Yellaiah, a Dalit leader who rose from the ranks of a party worker to a corporator of municipal corporation in Hyderabad to becoming Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member.
He was in the forefront of the first phase of Telangana agitation in 1969 and is popularly known as “Dalitha Bandhavudu”.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, AICC general secretary in charge of Telangana RC Khuntia, CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, party veterans K Jana Reddy, V Hanumanth Rao, Bhuvanagiri MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy, AICC secretaries SA Sampath Kumar and Ch Vamshi Chand Reddy, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, form,er minister DK Samarasimha Reddy, TRS ministers and others conveyed their condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the death of Nandi Yellaiah is an irreparable loss to the Congress party. “A strict disciplinarian, he always believed and followed the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and the Congress party,” Uttam said.
Nandi Yellaiah won five times from Siddipet Lok Sabha constituency and once from Nagarkurnool constituency. He also served as the member of the standing Committee of the Defence. He was elected to Rajya Sabha for two terms. He also served as MLC in undivided Andhra Pradesh and vice-president of Pradesh Congress Committee.
