NEW DELHI: In a major embarrassment for the NDA government, BJP veteran L K Advani blamed it along with the opposition benches for the ongoing parliamentary logjam over demonetisation. He said neither “the Speaker nor the parliamentary affairs minister was running the House”.
“I am going to tell the Speaker she isn’t running the House I’m going to say it publicly. Both sides are a party to this,” he said even as parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar was seen pacifying him.

BJP veteran L K Advani was heard criticising Speaker Sumitra Mahajan after sloganeering by Congress and TMC members had disrupted Lok Sabha proceedings on Wednesday.
The former deputy Prime Minister’s outburst came hours after PM Narendra Modi attacked the opposition for disruptions in Parliament and just after the House was adjourned in the morning following protests.
Though not on record, the veteran’s remarks were plainly audible to the media gallery as well as to those in the House. In fact, as he tried to calm Advani down, Kumar was seen pointing to the media gallery — something which was interpreted by many as the minister’s effort to alert the former deputy PM that he could be heard by the reporters.
As the House was adjourned, the 89-year-old BJP veteran asked a Lok Sabha official at the table till what time it had been adjourned. When told that it was till 2 pm, he snapped, “Why not sine die?” Earlier too, Advani was seen expressing displeasure over the situation in the Lok Sabha to Kumar.

Advani, a regular in the House, looked annoyed and was soon surrounded by his party colleagues who sought to defuse the situation and escort him out. Kumar and I&B minister M Venkaiah Naidu later sought to shield the government and said that the veteran was pointing to opposition parties when expressing anger. They flanked him while he walked back from the House and got into his car to leave for home.
Responding to Advani’s outburst, Congress MP Sushmita Dev said, “I thank him. Advani has brought the correct perspective to the whole issue. It is the responsibility of the government to make sure that maximum work is done during the session. Advani is one of the senior-most parliamentarians. We hope the government will take his good advice.”
