Rape-murder at Malda puja pandal

MALDA: A mentally ill woman was allegedly raped and murdered at a Puja pandal in South Dinajpur’s Gangarampur area on Monday.
Organizers of Kalidighi Sarbojonin found the body from behind the pandal on Dashami morning and informed the police. Two dhakis hired by the organizers have been arrested. It is suspected the woman was raped late on Nabami night, when the pandal became deserted, with only the dhakis staying back.
“The woman has been identified. She was mentally ill,” police super Prasun Bandyopadhay said. Medical tests have revealed there was an attempt to rape, he said. The body has been sent for post mortem.
