Make in India fostering competitive federalism: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

MUMBAI: Describing Maharashtra as the "powerhouse" of the country, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the 'Make in India' vision has led to different states adopting "competitive federalism".
The Maharashtra chief minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving the state an opportunity to host the mega event which he said showcases India's strength.
"The Make in India vision has changed the outlook of the entire country. There is a fair competitive atmosphere across states throughout the country. The states are now moving from cooperative to competitive federalism," Fadnavis said, speaking at the inaugural event of the MII Week here in Modi's presence.
"The world knows that Maharashtra is powerhouse of India and Assocham has declared Maharashtra as the best investment destination," he added.
According to the CM, the number of permissions needed for setting up various industries has been brought down.
The permission regime has been put on a single electronic platform and no investor has to run from pillar to post, Fadnavis claimed.
"We have come out with a new IT, tourism, retails policies. Mumbai is financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India," he said while exuding confidence that they will turn "Mumbai into an international financial centre".
On the occasion, Union commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the PM launched the Make in India (initiative) in September 2014 and spoke of new processes and mindsets.
"The mindset was to be changed from regulator to facilitator. As a result of his tours to several countries, Brand India has picked up," she said.
"India's image all over the world has completely changed thanks to his extensive tours", Sitharaman added.
CII president Sumit Majumdar said this is an outstanding moment for India. "Make in India is a revolutionary mission for India and CII compliments the PM as the architect of the mission."
"India is back on the global high table... We have no doubts that ... India will emerge as a global manufacturing destination," he added.
