BENGALURU: The next time you get caught in a traffic jam, don't waste time cribbing about the bad state of affairs. Just grab your cellphone and send an sms or message through WhatsApp with the name of the road and junction, and if possible, a photograph to 7259100100. Traffic police will rush to your help and clear the logjam.
Traffic police on Wednesday launched the helpline number for public to alert them about road blocks and tell other vehicle users to change the route.
More than 750 messages, mostly from Kundalahalli, Sarjapura Road, Whitefield, Mahadevapura, Hebbal and Padmanabhanagar, have been sent to this number till Thursday night, with nearly 250 photographs.
Additional commissioner MA Saleem said: “Messages will be received by the employees in traffic management centre. The staff will redirect the message to officials in the problematic junction. The city has many junctions where cops are not deployed. Whenever there are such problems, public can alert us and we will act immediately."
However, there is concern about availability of adequate staff. The move will yield good results only if more personnel are deployed on the field, sources said. “We require more officials to attend to such complaints. The number of complaints will increase day by day," officials pointed out.
