Kodre (42) died following a heart attack on Monday afternoon. She is survived by her husband, their son and daughter.
“Kodre suffered from a congenital heart disease. On Monday morning, she complained of discomfort and restlessness. Later, she went to bed to take rest. Her son called us around 11.30am, saying that she was not waking up,” said gynaecologist
Vinod Bharati of a multi-specialty hospital in Kharadi.
“We sent our medical team to her residence. She was brought to the hospital and declared dead after mandatory investigations,” the doctor said.
Kodre was originally from Wai in Satara district and became the corporator from Mundhwa-Keshavnagar in 2012. She went on to become the mayor of Pune in 2013 and remained the city’s first person for one-and-a-half years.
Kodre was the 53rd mayor of the city and the seventh woman to occupy the post. She had become corporator from the same ward this year also.
Her father-in-law, Kailash Kodre, was also a former mayor of the city.
