Papon (Angaraag Mahanta) is set to perform in the city soon. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and singer from Assam, who has become one of the most recognizable-and-sought-after voices in India. While rooted in folk, Papon has a wide variety of influences and is considered to be an extremely versatile artiste. In 2007, he formed his folk-fusion band called Papon and The East India Company.
The band consists of a bassist, a guitarist, a drummer, a world percussionist and a keyboardist.
The band has performed live almost at all the music festivals in India, while they have also toured the US, Europe and Dubai. The singer was born to parents, who were both well-known musicians. His inspirations came from the wide array of sound from the traditional Folk songs of Eastern India to ghazals to new-age electronica.
The concert is scheduled to take place on June 24 (6.30 pm) at Phoenix MarketCity, Whitefield.
